A Post-Apocalyptic Survival series

Do you have what it takes to survive?

Ben Davis was prepared for disaster. He just didn’t know it would come so soon.

He and his teenage son, Joel, are miles deep in the backcountry of the San Juan Mountains when high-altitude nuclear electromagnetic detonations light up the pre-dawn sky. Ben, Joel, and their dog, Gunner, must make their w

This is the debut novel from Bruno Miller and if you are looking for some realistic (read sometimes a bit TOO real for me) Post Apocalyptic fiction, then this should be your next read. Where are most of the books in this genre I have read tend to focus more on the distant future, or have an alien type element, this feels like it could happen at any moment and if it does PLEASE let me be even a fraction as prepared as Ben!

For a debut novel this author is coming out strong, but be warned it is par

Very good

Well written story about teotwawki & how quickly civilized behavior vanishes. I enjoyed this story very much & will definitely continue reading this author's work.

I was engaged in Breakdown from the start and then felt bogged down in all the planning. Father and son on a camping trip in the mountains witnessed an explosion in the sky that was thought to be an EMP; no electronics worked afterward. Although the news reports cited bad blood between the US and North Korea in the days preceding the event, the attacker was never identified . The father, a former Army Ranger, stocks a basement vault with various weapons and ammunition and sorts through the lot t ...more

Ben and his son are faced with a post apocalyptic world after a camping trip.

First of all I have to stress I have based my review on the story idea behind this book. I loved the idea, I loved the main story line. For a debut book it full of depth and the world has been created wonderfully. However for the actual writing of the story I have to say it’s probably only a 3star. I say this because at times there was just an overload of information. The author has done some amazing research or has a v

I was introduced to this book/series by a friend. I honestly didn't know what to expect but by the time I finished I knew I had to continue reading until the author was finished with the series. With my crazy schedule this year I had not stopped to do book reviews on here until now.

Ben, Joel, and their dog head to their annual camping trip. While in the backcountry some strange things happen. As they are heading home, reality sets in and a new journey begins.

Reading this book made me realize jus

A great book on what I know I will read every single following book!

5 stars were chosen because this first book is GREAT!! Excellent and well defined characters and true to live emotion of the characters.

The story is great and I am pretty sure I found a new favorite author.

The author clearly knows what he is writing about and has exceptional knowledge of how people behave under the circumstances he is writing about! This is NOT a "ho-hum" story. It is great and starts great right from the begin

I really wanted to like this book as it had been promoted by an author I like and I usually like post-apocalyptic stories. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me.
1. Too much telling instead of showing.
2. Descriptions of weapons and survival equipment read like catalog offerings.
3. The characters were so two dimensional that I really didn't care.
4. The situations were so predictable that there was no tension

If you want a story of a man and his son's travels in post-apocalyptic world, read Cormac

This is a solidly written story about survival in a post apocalyptic environment. The characters are well developed and the world is quite scary but realistic. The main characters are Ben, a retired Army Ranger and his teenage son Joel, both very likable.
The story itself has an open ending, as it is to be expected considering that a whole new unpleasant world is being formed and the whole lot of adventures are ahead of them.
Worry not, the next book Escape is already available for pre-order and

A Good Beginning

This is the first book of this series, and it sets the stage for coming episodes. Most of the book is a great introduction to the characters. Towards the end the United States is hit with a devastating electromagnetic pulse attack that fries all devices using chips. This book covers the gathering of supplies and a new friend to survive the apocalypse and unite the family. It ends with the promise of more action to come. The characters are realistic and likeable, and the writing

I enjoyed this first book of a series. It uses current headlines to set up a not-too-unfamiliar formula. The writing style is good and flows well. It is descriptive without being too ornate and gets to the point. I like the main character Ben and his son, Joel. My main issue is that it is just too short. It is just starting to set up the characters and the plot and then it ends. Now the long wait to the next book.

Bruno Miller's debut release is a gritty, realistic post-apocalypse novel set in present day US.
The characters are interesting and the plot frighteningly believable. Although this is the first book in a series I would have liked a bit more action and pace as this does little more than set the scene and set things in motion. That said I enjoyed it a lot and as book two is released in June there really isn't long to wait for the next instalment.

Good start to a series. Breakdown really flushed out the characters and makes them likable and easy to relate to. The situations are very believable and nothing seems forced to move the story along. A bit slow at the start, the story moved at a good pace covering three days. The story is realistic and gripping. I really liked that the author took the time to bring you into the world that felt like today or tomorrow.

Very good author, great book that hooks you right from the start

This author is among the most skilled in this genre. He's paid attention to grammar and his editor has reviewed the book carefully. This simply makes for an enjoyable read without being distracted by the errors too many authors make today.
I very much enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading the next in the series!

Bruno Miller's gripping introduction to the Dark Road Series held my attention from beginning to end. A Former Army Ranger, outdoorsman and owner of a shop catering to adventure seekers, Ben is someone I'd want to have on my side if the world as I knows it comes to an end. His fierce loyalty to family shows through on every page and makes this hero strong enough to carry the series forward. I can't wait for the next book in the series, which is due for release in June.

If the world did come to an end, Ben and his son would be prepared.

Okay, so I don't know if I have what it takes to survive in this kind of world, if anything like this were to happen for real I would want to have someone like Ben around because he is calm in these tough situations and he knows the best and safest way to handle things.
I am excited to read the next book and see what kind of adventures they are gonna have while they try to get to their families!

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest
What do you do when disaster strike ?
Ben, his son Joel, and Joel's friend Allie have to learn fast in order to survive this post-apocalyptic world.
The storytelling + the character's build were awesome!
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can't wait for the next book in the series!

This is the first book in a new series and it is loaded with information, knowledge, and wisdom. Ben, a former U.S. Army Ranger and his teenage son are learning about this new life after an EMP attack on American soil. This is a realistic look at what life may be like after such an attack. A very good start to this series.

Well written. Found only one type. There may have been more but was enjoying the book so didnt notice. Some books are so full of typos or story line changes in the middle of the book ex :character died then two chapters later they're back. This causes me to lose interest. I found NONE of that in this book.

I happened across this book while searching for something that might be good to read. Glad I did. I really enjoyed reading Breakdown, the suspense of what and why came across great along with the up coming journey on Book Two Escape, which I am getting ready to read Five stars across the board. Thank you 6/23/18.

I enjoyed this first book, it was well written a great set up for what's to come! An EMP over America has occurred while Ben and his son Joel are on a fishing trip. They make it home with some luck and prepare to get themselves to Maryland and rescue his other two children.

A Novella setting up the Apocalyptic occurrence and the start of the journey. Dad is an former Army Ranger with a teenage son. Good internal dialogue regarding disaster preparation and realistic dialogue between dad and son - not lots of talking like with girls, but not just grunting either. Highly recommend.

Exciting plot, likeable characters and an intriguing new unfamiliar world...

Engaging, likeable characters faced with a daunting new world and an arduous cross country trip, set the stage for a fast paced easy read. I read it in one sitting and have already purchased the second book. Would highly recommend.

I saw this book recommend by Steven Konkoly so decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed. I knew from the first page I was gping to enjoy this story. It is well written, fast moving and the characters are interesting. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Not bad

Only three stars because it was far to short. This is a good story but I dislike episodic writers. While containing strong characters it was simply to short to really have the story grip me.

Great Story

Very good reading, I already have book 2 and planning to start it as soon as I finish this review. Fictional story that with the way things are going could be a History lesson.

Great Survival Story

A great start to a dooms day story. The characters are believable, rich in character, and someone I can cheer along. I'm hoping the next book isnt too far behind.

Great read but...

I actually liked this book - at first I wasn't too sure, but I'm so glad I made it last the first chapter! The author was able to transplant me into the world of the characters and I felt like I knew them

I haven't read an EMP book in ages and this a good one. I have read a lot of them then they started to upset me. I'm worried about my kids and grandbabies. The possibility of an EMP is real. Good job . Miller!
