[close] The purpose of this group is to try to challenge yourself to read more world literature and classics, the list of New York Review Books' Classics being a great place to begin. The books we will be reading are just taken from their library, you do not specifically have to read that version. Check out our bookshelf for the ongoing list of books. For now we will have 2-to-4 group reads annually, chosen from the list. All genres are welcome! This group also may include other classics, since the point is to get more people into reading them. [close] Goodreads group for the Book Passport Challenge. The Book Passport Challenge is an international reading challenge aimed to broaden reading horizons and conect with readers around the globe. The purpose of this challenge is to promote reading about different people and places that greatly differ from your self and where you love. This challenge also encourages readers to select books written by international authors, learn about the history of new places, and explore the world from your home. This challenge will span 80 days from June 1, 2019 to August 20, 2019. Rules of the Challenge: Only seven books count towards the challenge. One must take place in each of the seven continents. To count for a specific continent, the book needs to take place in that continent for the majority of the book. For example, Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins primarily takes place in France, so it would count as the book for Europe. If it is a fantasy book, the book must be heavily inspired by a specific place. For example, Flame in the Mist by Reneé Ahdieh is fantasy, but takes place in feudal Japan. Therefore, it counts as Asia. Divergent by Veronica Roth takes place in a futuristic Chicago, so it would count as North America. The books counted towards the challenge must be read in the 80-day timeframe of June 1, 2019-August 20, 2019.
