Great review. I loved this book when it came out. I need to watch the movie now, hopefully they have done it well.

I've neither read the book nor seen the movie. But I seem to remember some criticism against the movie, that they focused too much on the white woman and how she felt about the maids and injustices, so the coloured perspective became more of a prop for the development of the writer. You say that you found Minny to be more interesting but Skeeter has more chapters. Did it seem a bit "white gaze" to you, or did you feel that Minny and Aibileen got to present their stories in a genuine way?

I never actually looked at it that way but that's actually kinda true, the white woman has way more chapters then the rest and seems to undergo the most character developments.I still do think the two black maids still got to present their stories in a genuine way and they both grow a bit in terms of character development especially Minny at the end.

I totally agree with your review on this. I couldn't have said it better myself.
I agree, this book was a fantastic book and it gave me a new insight on how racism was in the 1960s.
